Noise canceling headphones are my best friend! But even if I love them I still want to be able to hear all the cars passing me on my walks.

Ahhh the good old trian commute lol. It was actually a morning commute onenday back in 2011 that inspired to to quite my job. I was scrolling Twitter on the train to work and found an article about how anxiety-inducing commuting is. It was SOOOO ironic reading that article while commuting 😂 Two weeks later, I quit.

As far as sensory overload, mine is too much sound. Like, if the TV or radio is on and someone is trying to talk to me I feel very frustrated. My brain hates it. And I need total silence when writing or sleeping or whatever.

That's v brave of you! I know that this corporate life ain't for me long term, but right now it pays the bills. Tricky one.

How did you navigate this? I want to transition in the next 3-5 years to my actual passions as long as they bring the same financial support

Agree on the sound. What you described is exactly the same haha. If I'm out for drinks in London and there's roadworks or really loud people near me, I literally can't get my words out. I think it's why we turn the radio down in the car if we're trying to find a street too!

How did I navigate it? I did 10 years at the company and like you, I stayed for the stability while raising my son. After he grew up and I had no mouths to feed, I just took the leap. I moved to Jamaica with $3500 in the bank 😂 Having said that, I did have things in place to help me survive, like building websites and managing social media. And the cost of living was dirt cheap comparatively speaking.
